Cross- sector forum on the Law on Donations and Sponsorships

In order for the views, opinions and recommendations of all stakeholders in the process of preparing amendments to the Law on Donations and Sponsorships in the Public Activities (adopted in April, 2006) to be heard and noted, the Association Konekt organized Cross- sector forum on the Law on Donations and Sponsorships on 5th of December, 2011 at the Holiday Inn. The Cross- sector forum is another step towards involving the public in the process of preparing changes to the Law, whose primary purpose is to encourage contributions (through donations and sponsorships) of enterprises and citizens in the field of public interest (education, culture, welfare, environment, health, sports, etc.). Through this, we strive to contribute to improving the lives of citizens, associations and foundations, individuals and legal entities, their economic prosperity and social justice.

"One of the key problems is that the Law provides a complex obligatory procedure for receiving tax incentives. This indicates a lack of trust in the concept of private donating, a concept that must be encouraged by the Law. There is a need for the Law to be completely revised, the procedure to be simplified, and the control for the usage of donations to be focused on the beneficiaries of donated funds and goods instead of on the donors, as it is currently provided ". said Nikica Kusinikova, executive director of Konekt.

The activities which the Association Konekt started in second half of 2010, with the ultimate goal to ensure the involvement of the public and the relevant stakeholders in the process of policy making. These activities are initiated based on extensive and in-depth analysis of the Law that defines several major challenges that should be resolved by the new legal framework.

The Cross- sector was conducted within the project Legal Framework for Financial Sustainability of CSOs which is co-funded by European Union funds within IPA/2011/261-811.
