The project “Legal Framework for Financial Sustainability of CSOs” aims to assess the regulations on stimulating activities of public interest and to develop recommendations on improving the regulation and the procedures related to the Law on Donations and Sponsorships of Activities of Public Interest. The project builds on previous activities of Konekt, during 2010, concerning changes of the Law.
Donations and sponsorships are the main sources of support in solving problems in many areas of public interest: education, sport, culture, social issues and health. They are especially important for the financial sustainability of civil society organizations. Because of this influence of donations in society, the legal framework that regulates this area is of high importance.
Improved legislation will grant incentive to donors and sponsors to increase their support. At the same time it will create a positive environment for sustainability of civil society organizations that provide activities of public interest.
The activities under the project strive to ensure participatory approach aimed at involving all stakeholders.The project`s activities include:
- analysis of the implementation of the current legislative;
- involvement of sector working groups with key representatives from the business sector, institutions and recipients in defining the challenges that the stakeholders face;
- cross-sector debates;
- and media campaign.
In order to address the situation, the communication between the sponsors, donors, recipients, public authorities, decision-makers and the wider public is essential because all will benefit from the improved Law.
In the last period the activities were focused on making a detailed analysis of existing tax incentives and on establishment of cooperation with key institutions to change the Law. To this end, interviews were conducted and meetings with companies, associations, foundations and public institutions were held. The analysis will be published soon and will be available electronically.
